Typically the population does not access healthcare for diabetes unless they face an emergency, such as, fatique, frequent urination, or foot ulcers. It is common for people diagnosed with diabetes 10 years ago not taking medication or changing their diet.

DIABETES FIJI INC

The footcare project has trained more than 200 nurses around Fiji. It has also saved 60% of foot ulcers cases from amputation. The biggest problem which not only faced at the clinic but around Fiji is patient presenting very late with their foot problems. Most resort to herbal treatment at very early stages, deteriorating it more and present to hospital when the condition has really worsen. It is very late for foot care nurses to intervene as infection has penetrated severely.

FATHER LAW HOME

LOCATED just outside Lami Town in Central Fiji, the Father Law Home provides shelter and comfort for 30 men and women, many of whom have no family support systems. A staff of 11, headed by Sister Mere Lauwai, cares for the residents and maintains the home which is a series of buildings on just under half an acre of land off the Queens Highway. The home is all about love, care and respect for the aged.

The Health of a Child is the true wealth of a nation. Currently there is a high burden of Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) in children of Fiji and other South Pacific Island Nations for which currently there are no pediatric cardiac services available. Approximately 200 children in Fiji and 2,500 in the Pacific Island nations are born with CHD annually! ‘Gift of Life’ is a successful project providing free heart surgeries to the underprivileged and needy children of Fiji by visiting specialist pediatric cardiac teams.
